Woman’s History Month in would not be complete without taking a moment to talk about May Mann Jennings. This a story you may not have heard it has to do with the importance of dimes. The Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs accepted custodianship of Royal Palm State Park (the current Everglades National Park). An initial fundraising initiative aimed at securing maintenance funds included distributing foot-long strips with coin slots to women’s clubs, encouraging them to raise “a mile of dimes” for the park. Jennings estimated this effort could produce over $6,000 for the endowment funds.
